Installing the extension

The Ultrathink browser extension lets you capture web pages, screenshots, AI conversations, and selected text directly into your knowledge base. It works with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Install from the Chrome Web Store

The quickest way to get started is to install from the Chrome Web Store. Because Edge supports Chrome extensions natively, the same listing works for both browsers.

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store in Chrome or Edge
  2. Search for Ultrathink
  3. Click Add to Chrome (or Add to Edge if prompted)
  4. Confirm the permissions dialog by clicking Add extension
  5. The Ultrathink icon appears in your browser toolbar

Pin the extension for quick access

After installation, the icon may be hidden behind the extensions menu (the jigsaw puzzle icon). Pinning it keeps the icon visible at all times.

  1. Click the Extensions menu icon (jigsaw puzzle) in your toolbar
  2. Find Ultrathink in the list
  3. Click the pin icon next to it
  4. The Ultrathink icon now appears permanently in your toolbar

Install in developer mode

If you have a local build of the extension (for testing or development), you can load it as an unpacked extension.

  1. Download or clone the ultrathink-extension folder to your machine
  2. Open your browser and navigate to chrome://extensions
  3. Enable Developer mode using the toggle in the top-right corner
  4. Click Load unpacked
  5. Select the ultrathink-extension folder
  6. The extension loads and its icon appears in your toolbar

Developer mode extensions show a warning banner on launch. This is normal and does not affect functionality.

Connect your account with a device key

The extension uses a device key for authentication rather than a username and password. Device keys are long-lived tokens that stay stored in your browser profile.

Generate a device key

  1. Open the Ultrathink web app at app.ultrathink.io
  2. Go to Settings from the left-hand menu
  3. Select the Device Keys tab
  4. Click Create new key
  5. Give the key a recognisable name (for example, "Work laptop Chrome")
  6. Copy the generated key

Enter the key in the extension

  1. Click the Ultrathink extension icon in your toolbar
  2. Click the gear icon to open the Options page
  3. Paste your device key into the Device Key field
  4. Click Save

Your key is stored securely in Chrome's local storage on your device. It does not sync across browsers or devices, so you will need to enter a separate device key for each browser installation you use.

Verify the installation

After entering your device key, confirm everything is working:

  1. Navigate to any web page
  2. Click the Ultrathink extension icon
  3. The capture popup should appear showing the page title and URL
  4. Click Save to create a test entry
  5. Open the Ultrathink web app and check that the entry appears in your feed

If the popup shows an error or does not load, see the troubleshooting section below.

  • Open chrome://extensions, disable the extension, then re-enable it
  • If using developer mode, click the reload button on the extension card

Extension not working on certain pages

Some pages restrict extensions from running:

  • chrome:// and edge:// system pages
  • Chrome Web Store pages
  • Pages that enforce strict Content Security Policy headers

These restrictions are set by the browser and cannot be overridden.
