If you’re dyslexic, or you have ADHD, or like me you’re dyslexic with a lot of ADHD traits, you probably know the moment. A good thought, a keyboard, and by the third typo the thought has gone. When my fingers are slower than my head, I stop typing and record a voice note instead. This piece is about why I talk instead of type, the habits that make voice notes work for me, and what happens to them after I press stop.

ADHD working memory: why I lose the thread mid-sentence, and what helps

If you have ADHD, or a lot of the traits, and you keep losing the thread (of a conversation, a task, the reason you opened this tab), this is for you. It’s what ADHD working memory actually means, what the NHS and the research say, what it looks like in my working day, and the habits that help me pick the thread back up.

Like the end of the sentence you’re halfway through saying.

Object permanence and ADHD: if I can't see it, it doesn't exist

If you have ADHD, or a lot of the traits, you probably know the feeling. The email that scrolls off the first screen is gone. The task in the app you didn’t open today doesn’t exist. This piece is for anyone who has laughed (or groaned) at the phrase “object permanence ADHD” because it describes them a bit too well. It’s what the phrase actually means, what it looks like in my working day, and the habits that stop things vanishing on me.

Dyslexia and ADHD at work: 35 years of hiding typos, and what finally helped

If you’re dyslexic, or you have ADHD, or like me you have one and a lot of the other, this is for you. Especially if you’ve spent years at work building quiet workarounds so nobody notices. I’m not a doctor or a specialist, and I don’t really like giving advice. This is one person’s experience of dyslexia and ADHD traits at work: what I tried, what cost me too much, and what finally helped.

Personal knowledge management is broken, and how to fix it

Why personal knowledge management systems fail, from capture guilt to unused notes, and a flow-based approach that asks for less.

The only note taking system that survives real life

Why most note taking systems fail when life gets busy, a simple survivability test, and the zero-maintenance, capture-first system I settled on.

The Zettelkasten method is overcomplicated for most people

Why the Zettelkasten method is overcomplicated for most people, and a simpler approach based on quick capture, one place to store notes and search.

Best note taking app ADHD brains will actually keep using

A practical guide to choosing a note-taking app with ADHD: fast capture, easy retrieval and a seven-day test, from someone who has abandoned plenty.
