Enabling the widget

The Ultrathink Quick Capture widget is a lightweight desktop application that sits on top of your other windows. It lets you capture notes, files, screenshots, and voice memos without switching away from what you are working on. The widget is available for both Windows and Mac.

What you will need

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

An Ultrathink account with a verified email address
A device key generated from the web app (see below)
Windows 10 or later, or macOS 12 (Monterey) or later

Installing on Windows

Go to the GitHub Releases page
Download the latest UltraThink-Setup-x.x.x.exe file
Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts
Once installation completes, the widget starts automatically
The Ultrathink icon appears in your system tray (bottom-right corner of the taskbar)

Note: Windows Defender or your antivirus software may show a warning because the installer is not yet code-signed through the Microsoft Store. Click More info and then Run anyway to proceed.

The Ultrathink Quick Capture widget is designed to stay accessible while you work. You can move it anywhere on your screen, switch between normal and expanded modes, and control whether it floats above other windows. This page covers all the ways you can customise the widget’s position and behaviour.

Always-on-top mode

By default, the widget stays above all other windows on your screen. This means you can always see it and interact with it, regardless of which application is in the foreground.

Quick capture mode

The Ultrathink Quick Capture widget is built for speed. You can type a note, drop a file, take a screenshot, or record audio without leaving your current window. Everything you capture is automatically uploaded to your Ultrathink knowledge base and processed by AI.

Quick notes

The simplest way to capture something is to type it directly into the widget.

How quick notes work

Click the text field in the widget
Type your note
Press Enter or click Save

Your note is saved as a new entry in Ultrathink. The AI processes it in the background, generating a summary and extracting topics, people, and relationships.

Widget shortcuts

The Ultrathink Quick Capture widget does not currently have its own dedicated keyboard shortcuts. You can use standard operating system shortcuts for text editing, and when the widget is in expanded mode, the TipTap rich text editor provides its own formatting shortcuts.

Text formatting shortcuts

These shortcuts are available in expanded mode when the TipTap rich text editor is active. They do not apply in normal mode, which uses a plain text field.
