Finding your way around

The web app is where everything you capture ends up. Open it at tryultrathink.com/app in any up-to-date browser. This page explains the layout and how to move around it.

The layout

The app has four parts:

PartWhereWhat it does
SidebarLeft, full heightTakes you to each page, with a count beside most of them
Top barAcross the topThe search bar, Help, Feedback and your account menu
Page panelThe middleThe page you are on: a list, a table, a board or a calendar
Detail panelRightOpens when you click an entry, so you can read and edit it

The sidebar

The sidebar starts with these pages, in groups:

GroupPageWhat it shows
MainHomeYour startup page (All items unless you change it)
MainWork planA canvas of the entries you star. Pro
MainSearchAI search answers. Pro
OrganiseProjectsEntries filed as projects
OrganiseTasksEntries filed as tasks, as a list, table, board or calendar
OrganiseKnowledgeEntries filed as knowledge
OrganiseAll itemsEvery entry you have saved
RecentThe entries you changed most recently
ManagePeopleEveryone named on your entries. Hidden at first
ManageTopicsEvery topic in use, with the topic health panel. Hidden at first
ManageSettingsEverything you can change

Projects, Tasks and Knowledge take whatever names you give them in Settings > Entities, so your sidebar may say something else.

People and Topics are hidden for new accounts. Turn them on in Settings > Navigation.

Counts

The number beside a page is how many entries it has. The Tasks count leaves out tasks that are done. Turn any count on or off in Settings > Navigation.

Recent

The Recent section lists entries you changed lately. Click the menu next to its heading to choose what it shows:

  • Recent projects (the default);
  • Recent of each type;
  • Everything in one list, newest first.

The same menu sets How many to show, and has Hide from the sidebar.

Make the sidebar yours

In Settings > Navigation you can:

  • drag pages and sections into a different order;
  • hide pages you do not use;
  • turn counts on or off;
  • rename sections and add your own;
  • choose the Startup page that opens when you sign in.

Changes save automatically and apply straight away. See Appearance, navigation and notifications.

The top bar

From left to right:

  • The search bar. The one search box in the app. Type to filter the page you are on, or press Enter to ask AI search. Press Ctrl K (Cmd K on a Mac) to jump to it from anywhere. See Search and filters.
  • Feedback. Send a note about what is working and what is not.
  • Help. The question mark opens the Help panel. See The tour, What’s new and Help.
  • Theme switch. A light and dark switch, if you have turned it on in Settings > Appearance.
  • Account menu. Your picture or initials. It has Take the tour, What’s new, Settings, Sign out and the app version.

The page panel

Each entries page has a header with:

  • the page title and how many entries are showing;
  • a view switch: List and Table on most pages, plus Board and Calendar on Tasks;
  • Filter, to narrow what is shown;
  • Display options, for grouping, order, density and columns;
  • a refresh button;
  • the orange capture button, such as New entry or New task.

Lists, tables and boards covers the views. The board and calendar have their own pages in the Tasks section.

The detail panel

Click any entry to open it in the detail panel on the right. You can read the AI summary, edit the title and notes, change topics and people, set task fields and add comments.

  • Press J for the next entry and K for the previous one.
  • Press Esc or click the close button to close the panel.
  • The back arrow returns to the entry you came from.

See The detail panel.

Settings

Settings replaces the sidebar with its own list of pages, in groups: Basic settings, Layout, Advanced and Config. Click Back to Ultrathink at the top of that list to return. Everything saves as you change it. See Settings overview.

On a tablet or phone

  • On a tablet, the sidebar shrinks to icons. Point at an icon to see its name.
  • On a phone, the sidebar is hidden. Tap the menu button in the top bar to open it, and Close menu to shut it.
  • The detail panel and Help panel open over the page.

On an iPhone, signing in to the web app opens a simple capture screen instead of the full app. See On your phone.

Staying up to date

New entries and changes appear on their own, without a refresh, on every device you are signed in on. Settings also stay in step across open tabs and devices.

If something looks out of date, click the refresh button in the page header, or reload the page.
