Device keys, integrations and downloads
The Config group of Settings has three pages: Device keys, Integrations and Downloads. Together they connect Ultrathink to your other apps and tools.
Device keys
Settings > Device keys makes the keys that let your other apps save to your account. The browser extension and the desktop app each need one, and so do API tools and the MCP server.
The page has two groups:
- New key: type a Device name, such as “Work laptop”, and click Create key. The new key shows once, with a copy button. Copy it then: it is not shown again.
- Your keys: every key you have made, with when it was created and last used.
For each key in Your keys you can:
- open API settings to switch on API access (Pro), choose Permissions (Read only or Read and write) and add a Description of what uses it;
- click Revoke key to stop it working. Any app using it can no longer save entries. A revoked key cannot be turned back on: make a new one instead.
Read only keys can search but cannot save, from the API or any app.
The full guide, with steps for each app, is Connect an app with a device key. For API access, see API: getting started.
Integrations
Settings > Integrations holds the key Ultrathink uses for its AI. What you see depends on your plan.
On the Free plan: your own OpenAI key
On the Free plan, the AI that titles, summarises and files your entries runs on your own OpenAI API key. Until you add one, your entries are saved but the AI cannot process them, and the row shows Required.
To add your key:
- Get an API key from the OpenAI platform, at platform.openai.com/api-keys. It starts with sk-.
- Go to Settings > Integrations.
- Paste the key into API key.
- Click Save key.
Ultrathink checks the key with OpenAI before it saves it. You see Key checked and saved. when it works, or OpenAI’s reason when it does not.
Your key is stored on our servers, never in your browser. Once saved, the row shows that a key is set, and the key itself is never shown again. You can then:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Test key | Checks the saved key with OpenAI again. You see The key works. if it does. |
| Replace | Lets you paste a new key. |
| Remove | Deletes the key. The AI stops processing new entries until you add another. |
You pay OpenAI for what the AI uses. You can set a monthly limit on your OpenAI account.
On Pro: nothing to set up
On Pro, the AI runs through Ultrathink’s own OpenAI account. The OpenAI row says Managed, and you do not need a key.
If you saved your own key before you upgraded, an Old API key row appears. That key is no longer used. Click Remove key to delete it.
See Plans and billing.
Downloads
Settings > Downloads has the Ultrathink apps for your browser and your computer.
Browser extension
The browser extension is the quickest way to save web pages, selections, screenshots and AI conversations. It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers. There are two ways to get it:
| Option | What it is |
|---|---|
| Direct download | A ZIP file you install by hand. Always the latest version. Click Download. |
| Chrome Web Store | Installs from the store and updates itself, but can lag behind while the store approves each version. Click Open store. |
The page links to a guide on installing an unpacked extension by hand. See Browser extension: install and connect for the full steps.
Desktop app
The desktop app is listed as Desktop widget. It is for quick capture from your desktop: notes, files, screenshots and audio. It also shows your task reminders.
| Download | For |
|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 or later |
| Mac (Apple Silicon) | macOS 11 or later, M1 to M4 chips |
| Mac (Intel) | macOS 11 or later, Intel processors |
Click Download next to the one for your computer. The page lists your own computer’s download first. See Desktop app: install and connect.
iPhone
An iPhone app is coming soon. Until then, use the web app on your phone. See On your phone.
