The type says what kind of thing you saved. It decides how the AI summarises the entry and which sections the detail panel shows, and it is one of the filters on every entries page.

This page lists every type, where each one comes from and what you see when you open it.

How an entry gets its type

You rarely choose a type yourself. Ultrathink sets it from what you saved:

Topics

Topics say what an entry is about, such as
pricing
,
hiring
or
blog
. An entry can have several topics, and a topic can be on as many entries as you like. Topics are flat: there are no parent topics or sub-topics.

Topics come from two places: the ones you add, and the ones the AI adds. This page covers both, the Topics page, and how to keep your topics tidy.

People

People are the names on your entries: a colleague in a meeting note, the author of a post, the person a task is waiting on. Like topics, an entry can have several people, and a person can be on many entries.

This page covers how people get onto entries, the People page, and how to keep the list tidy.

How people get onto entries

There are three ways:

The AI adds them. When it files a new entry, the AI picks out the people the entry is about or mentions, and matches them to names already in your people list where it can.

You add them. In the detail panel, click the + at the end of the People row, then pick a name or type a new one and press Enter. A new name joins your people list.

Waiting on. Choosing a new name in a task’s Waiting on field adds that name to your people list too. See Due dates, waiting on and links.

To take a person off an entry, point at their chip in the detail panel and click the x.

Projects, knowledge and stars

Besides its topics and people, every entry has three things that say how it fits into your work:

an entity: project, task, knowledge or unclassified

a category: work, personal or none

a star, if you want to keep it close

This page covers all three.

Entities

The entity says what an entry is for. It is separate from its type: a Link can be a task, and a Note can be a project.

Sharing with your organisation

Ultrathink is private by default: every entry you save is visible only to you. If you belong to an organisation, you can share work entries with its members, one entry at a time.

This page covers organisations, what sharing does, and what your colleagues can and cannot do with what you share.

Organisations

An organisation is a group of Ultrathink accounts, such as a team or a company. Each member has a role:
