Entry types
Every entry has a type, such as Link, Screenshot or ChatGPT. The type says what kind of thing you saved. It decides how the AI summarises the entry and which sections the detail panel shows, and it is one of the filters on every entries page.
This page lists every type, where each one comes from and what you see when you open it.
How an entry gets its type
You rarely choose a type yourself. Ultrathink sets it from what you saved:
- From the web address. The browser extension looks at the address of the page you save. A page on claude.ai becomes a Claude entry, a YouTube page becomes a Video, and so on (the table below lists every rule).
- From the file. A file you drop on the web app or the desktop app gets its type from the file itself: a PDF becomes a PDF entry, a Word document a Word entry, a picture an Image.
- From how you captured it. A screenshot is a Screenshot, a selection of text is a Snippet, a recording is Audio, and a note you type with no link is a Note.
In the browser extension you can change the type before the entry saves, from the type list in the popup. After that, the type shows as a badge in the detail panel and cannot be changed there.
Web and documents
| Type | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Link | Any web page that matches none of the rules below. Also a link you paste into quick capture |
| An address ending in .pdf, or a PDF file you drop in | |
| Markdown | An address ending in .md, or a Markdown file |
| Word | A Word document on SharePoint or OneDrive, or a .docx file |
| Excel | An Excel workbook on SharePoint or OneDrive, or a spreadsheet file |
| PowerPoint | A PowerPoint deck on SharePoint or OneDrive, or a presentation file |
| OneNote | A OneNote page on SharePoint or OneDrive |
| Notion | A page on notion.so or notion.site |
| Video | A page on YouTube, youtu.be or Vimeo, or a video file |
| File | Any other file the app accepts |
A SharePoint or OneDrive address that does not say which Office app it belongs to is saved as Word.
Conversations and email
| Type | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | A conversation on chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com |
| Claude | A conversation on claude.ai |
| Perplexity | A search on perplexity.ai |
| Outlook | An email open in Outlook on the web (outlook.office.com, outlook.office365.com or outlook.live.com) |
For these types the extension reads the conversation or the email itself, not just the address. The detail panel then shows it in a Conversation or Email body section. See Capturing AI conversations.
People and profiles
| Type | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Profile | A LinkedIn profile (linkedin.com/in), a LinkedIn company page (linkedin.com/company), an X or Twitter profile, or a GitHub page |
A Profile entry keeps the person’s or company’s name, title, company, bio and photo, and the detail panel shows them in a Profile section. A post on X (an address with /status/) is saved as a Link, not a Profile. GitHub issues, pull requests and file pages are saved as Links too.
Pictures and sound
| Type | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Screenshot | A screenshot from the browser extension or the desktop app |
| Image | A picture you drop in or paste, such as a PNG, JPEG or WebP file |
| Audio | A voice note or meeting recording, or an audio file |
The AI describes screenshots and images, and turns audio into a transcript before it summarises it. Audio and video entries play in the detail panel.
Notes and text
| Type | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Note | Text you type in quick capture with no link, or a note from the desktop app |
| Long note | A longer note saved from the desktop app’s expanded view |
| Snippet | Text you selected on a web page before opening the extension |
| Idea | Chosen from the type list in the extension popup |
| Paragraph | Chosen from the type list in the extension popup |
A Snippet keeps the address of the page it came from, and the detail panel shows the text in a Selected text section.
What the type changes
| Where | What the type does |
|---|---|
| The AI summary | Each type has its own summary prompt, so a conversation, a PDF and a profile are each summarised in the way that suits them. The prompts are in Settings > Entities |
| The detail panel | Decides which sections show, such as Conversation, Profile or File preview |
| Filters | Filter > Type narrows any entries page to one or more types |
| Badges | Each type has a coloured badge. Pick the colours in Settings > Content types |
Videos are the one type the AI does not summarise.
Type is not the same as entity
The type says what kind of thing an entry is. The entity says what it is for: a project, a task, knowledge, or unclassified. A Link can be a task and a Note can be a project. You can change the entity at any time in the detail panel. See Projects, knowledge and stars.
Badge colours
To change the colour of a type’s badge:
- Open Settings
- Click Content types
- Pick a colour next to the type
Changes save automatically and show everywhere the badge appears.
